About the Event

On Tuesday night, fill your screens with a dedicated celebration of Ukraine's beloved, freedom fighting poet, Taras Shevchenko.

Discover his work through beautiful virtual performances on Zoom of:

  • classical music
  • traditional Ukrainian songs
  • poetry readings

Taras Shevchenko, 9 March 1814 – 10 March 1861 was a Ukrainian poet, writer, artist, public and political figure, as well as folklorist and ethnographer. His literary heritage is regarded to be the foundation of modern Ukrainian literature and, to a large extent, the modern Ukrainian language. Shevchenko is also known for many masterpieces as a painter and an illustrator.

In 1847 Shevchenko was politically convicted for explicitly promoting the independence of Ukraine. His story and legacy have stayed in the hearts of Ukrainian's, which is why even today he is still considered to be the country's champion of independence.

The show will be in English and Ukrainian, and the pieces will be performed by professional actors and musicians.

The event will be presented by Alla Sirenko, Composer, Writer and President of the Ukrainian Cultural association in the UK.

Tickets: minimum donation of £10.00 proceeds from ticket sales will go directly towards providing humanitarian aid for orphaned and vulnerable Ukrainian children in need; providing food packages, clothes, covering utility bills.

Zoom details will be sent out prior to the event.

We hope you join us for this celebration of this truly mounemtal Ukrianian national treasure.
